EDUCATION

"Cutting back on Education in the state budget is like eating our seed corn," Huck often says.

"Investing in the future may be harder when times are tough, but it's the right thing to do. This will help our economy diversify and empower our families to do better - making them better taxpayers while they're at it."

In the past decade, Michigan has fallen in funding higher education compared to other states. This hurts our "brain drain" and contributes to our less competitive situation in attracting new businesses.

For example, when United Solar came here, they cited Montcalm County College's retraining efforts as a positive workforce factor.

"Michigan can compete in the world economy," Huck said. "And we will win if we make a commitment to education. We must support early childhood educational programs smaller class sizes, continued teacher training and make sure that every student can afford college and advance training."

"Good schools are more than just testing factories… they are an integral part of our community's attractiveness for businesses and families,"
emphasized Huck.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Huck and Linda's children are products of local schools.
